A propos
Founded in the 12th century by canons and occupied by Cistercian monks from the 17th century, the Abbey of Abondance was abolished in 1761. It reveals the power of a gothic mountain architecture and conceals fabulous artistic treasures.
Founded in the 12th century, the Abbey has left its mark on the Abondance valley. Home to the monks, the monastic buildings still bear witness to the Abbey's power in the Middle Ages.
Transported back to medieval Savoy by the 15th-century murals in the cloister, you'll be seduced by the peacefulness of the setting.
The exhibition "From history to art: sacred heritage in the Abondance valley" invites you to explore the collection of exceptional sacred art in part of the former convent buildings.
As you enter the abbey church, with its Gothic mountain architecture, you'll marvel at the 19th-century trompe-l'œil decorations and rich furnishings.
Independent access to the church, according to parish opening hours.
